Donations and BequestsHealthy Communities Fund AppealUsing the rental income from a previously owned property, QAHC initiated the Healthy Communities Fund to award small grants for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community projects across Queensland, but the Fund is now running low and in danger of running out of money. Closing the Fund would mean a step backwards for Queensland's LGBT community and is an option we don't want to consider, but we need your support to keep this vital source of LGBT project funding open. The Fund has awarded over $100,000 and helped many varied LGBT groups across the state and has assisted groups such as Open Doors Youth Service, Australian Transgender Support Association Queensland, QAHC's Lesbian Health Action Group and Aqualicious to name just a few. Through assisting these groups by providing small grants, QAHC can also reach out to communities to better promote our health and wellbeing messages and help build the capacity of the community. The projects that the Fund supports help to connect LGBT people to their communities and this can lead to a number of positive benefits for their health and wellbeing. A bequest is simply a gift made in your will of part or all of your estate. How much you decide to leave as a bequest depends on your own circumstances. It's your personal decision - whatever you can afford will help. For information on making a will and how to include QAHC open the Writing Your Will booklet or call Fundraising Coordinator, Jason Russo on 07 3017 1728 or 1800 177 434. Gifts do not include raffle tickets, purchases of fundraising items (e.g. chocolates), membership fees or supply of a service. The donor can claim the full amount of any money gifted to QAHC. (Note: gifts of property over $5000 require formal valuation – please see the Tax Office for more info). The gift deduction can be spread over a period of up to 5 years. The donor should keep a record of any gifts made, including:
