CAIRNS LGBT RESOURCE CENTRE

Far North Queensland now has its own LGBT Resource Centre in Cairns for the use of both groups and individuals. Situated at 290 Draper Street, the centre is just three minutes walk from Cairns Central Shopping Centre. The Resource Centre offers a large training room available for the community to hold meeting and workshops. Film evenings, yoga classes and an LGBT choir are already up and running. Computers and other office equipment are available for community groups and individuals to use. There is a small but growing library of books and videos, a full kitchen to cater for centre functions and a spacious outdoor with a newly planted garden.

The centre caters for the health and well being of the LGBT community. If you live in or are visiting Cairns you are welcome to drop in on weekdays between 10am & 3pm for a cuppa and a chat, pick up the latest magazines or just relax. The phone number is 07 40415451.

The QAHC offices are also situated in the same building and are staffed by two part time Health Promotion Officers covering the area from Mackay to Cairns, two full time Indigenous Project Workers covering an area from Mackay to the Torres Strait Islands. There is also a receptionist and a number of volunteers.
